Quick Tips

Paying for Registration – Attendees are urged to pre-register using our Conference Registration Form and to bring copies of their registration and payment confirmation emails to the conference. This will help ensure a speedy on-site registration process.  Also, those opting to pay by check should mail their checks to CES at least three (3) weeks in advance of the conference, as checks will not be accepted as a form of payment once at the conference.  Those wishing to pay for their registration at the conference should be prepared to do so with cash, credit card, or a money order.

On-site Registration – Every effort will be made to expedite the on-site registration process so that attendees may secure their badges and conference packets with minimal fuss.  However, because the majority of attendees register at the start of the conference (early Thursday morning), attendees planning to visit the Registration Desk at that time should allow at least 10-15 minutes to accommodate on-site registration.

Presentation Norms – Although sometimes modified by Chairs and Session Organizers, the following practices have become normative at CES conferences:

1) Papers are shared with discussants prior to the meeting (2-3 weeks);
2) At the meeting, presentations typically last 10-15 minutes;
3) Discussants speak for 10-15 minutes after all papers have been presented;
4) After all panelists have spoken, a question and answer period follows.

Powerpoint – Laptop PCs, projectors and projection screens will be available in all conference session rooms.  However, to avoid loss of time, panel members are strongly encouraged to consolidate all Powerpoint presentations in advance on a single USB or Flash drive held by the Chair or Session Organizer. This will allow for a smooth transition between speakers and conserve time for discussion.  Those wishing to test their USBs on the available equipment before the start of the conference may do so by visiting the Registration Desk during early open hours (5-7 PM, March 21, Dickens Room). Wi-Fi will NOT be available in session rooms, so please put your presentation on a PC-compatible USB drive in advance of your session.

Wi-Fi Access  Free internet access (Wi-Fi) will be available to all conference attendees in the lobby of the Omni Parker House Hotel. Those attendees who will be staying at the hotel may also access the internet from their hotel rooms.  Wi-Fi access will NOT be available in conference session rooms.

Morning Coffee – Complimentary morning coffee (and tea) will be available in the Press Room at the start of each conference day.  So visit early and enjoy your morning beverage compliments of CES!

Receptions  Thanks to the splendid fundraising efforts of our Local Organizing Committee, the Council will host two receptions for conference attendees, one on March 22 and the other on March 23.  These events are paid for by conference sponsors who will be publicly recognized at the start of each reception.  So, save your drink for the toasts!

Drink Tickets  Four (4) complimentary drink tickets will be provided to each duly registered CES conference attendee and may be used during one or both of the CES receptions.  These drinks tickets may be redeemed for either an alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink.  Registrants who wish to redeem their drink tickets for alcoholic drinks must be 21 years of age or over.

CES Fellows' Discussion Forum  As part of its ongoing committment to support the professionalization, networking and career success of its graduate student Fellows, the Council will be hosting a discussion forum and reception on Saturday March 24, 2012 at 6:00 P.M. in the Kennedy Room.  The forum will focus on a discussion of non-research specific skills that support career success both inside and outside the academy.  All graduate student Fellows, volunteers and conference registrants are welcome to attend, as are former CES Fellows and CES Committee Members.
