CES Fellows

Q: Am I required to stay at the Drake, and if so, must I take a roommate?
A: If you are not planning on staying with family or friends, you must stay at the Drake Hotel under the CES account with a roommate. Any hotel bills incurred during your stay will be paid directly by CES, and will be deducted from your travel budget accordingly. No other hotel accommodations will be reimbursed by CES.

Q: What is the format of the Fellows Roundtable? What kind of presentation should I prepare?
A: The Fellows Roundtable sessions are discussions that provide the opportunity for CES Fellows to get feedback on their work from their peers and a senior scholar in their field. A small group of Fellows is assigned to a table with their senior scholar, and the informal presentation-feedback interaction is limited to that roundtable.

The 5 page report that you submit to CES upon completion of your Fellowship will be pre-circulated. You should prepare a presentation of the report designed to last around ten minutes, placing an emphasis on the areas on which you would like feedback.

Q: Can I request AV equipment for my Roundtable session?
A: Due to the small size of each Roundtable, AV equipment is not feasible; however, you may circulate handouts if you feel they are appropriate for your presentation.

Q: What determines my group / senior scholar assignment?
A: Fellows are assigned to senior scholars first by topic and secondly by group size. CES takes every effort to make appropriate matches.

Q: I purchased an eTicket for my travel to Chicago. Can I send a copy of this to be reimbursed?
A: If you purchase an eTicket, you must forward a copy of your credit card statement that lists this purchase in order to be reimbursed. We cannot accept a copy of the eTicket. Please read the full reimbursement policy here.

Graduate Students

Q: My paper was accepted into a Graduate Student Roundtable. What does this entail?
A: The Graduate Student Roundtables are small groups of graduate students with similar academic interests. CES pairs each group with a senior scholar, and the session serves as an informal discussion meant to provide each student with feedback on his or her work.

Q: What should I prepare for my presentation?
A: The session is informal in tone, and each graduate student should prepare a ten minute presentation that focuses on the areas of his or her work on which he or she would like to receive feedback. The senior scholar will have read your paper in advance, and will be able to make appropriate comments. You may distribute handouts if they are appropriate, but AV equipment will not be feasible given the room set-up.

Q: How and when should I send my paper to the senior scholar?
A: You should have your paper ready to send at least four weeks in advance of the conference date. CES will contact all Roundtable participants regarding the contact information of their senior scholar and more specific deadlines. Please note that graduate students, not senior scholars or CES, are responsible for forwarding their papers to the appropriate scholar on time.

Q: What is the appropriate attire for my session, along with the conference in general?
A: For the Graduate Student Roundtables, and most other conference panels, business casual is certainly appropriate.

Q: Am I required to attend the rest of the conference?
A: You are welcome and encouraged to participate in the conference from beginning to end, but this is not required.
